Music historian Art Bohman has been hosting KSUU’s Cowboy Country since 1987.

A school teacher by profession, Bohman taught at Cedar High School (Cedar City, Utah) for 44 years before retiring in 2008.

Art grew up in the small town of Peterson, in Utah’s Morgan County, and has always enjoyed various types of music.

[Growing up], “we played all kinds of music on the radio while milking cows in the barn,” says Art.

Among the programs that made an impression on a young Bohman…

“Good old K-O-double P with Trail Boss Wayne Moss–you can’t ever forget listening to that,” Bohman recalls.

Beyond nostalgia, Bohman emphasizes the cultural significance of the music heard on Cowboy Country.

“There are some that say that there are only two kinds of music that are really, purely American: jazz, and cowboy music.”

The 3-hour program, is now in its third decade on KSUU, 91.1 FM, Cedar City, Utah. Cowboy Country can also be heard via live audio streaming at www.suu.edu/ksuu (see KSUU Webpage Link in the right column) from 7-10AM (MT) Saturday mornings, or by listening to our podcast.
